Our Anniversary

We just had our 20th anniversary the other day and even though we no longer celebrate at this time of the year anymore, we were both thinking about it on Dec 27th.

These 2 photos were taken 3 years ago at our vow renewal at Mohonk Mountain House. To see more of the beautiful area, go to my "Out And About" section in the right hand column. We got our two best friends, who renewed their vows as well, I got the hair style I always wanted, the dress I wanted, a great photographer and the beautiful local for our ceremony (ow, let me not forget the great guy). We had been wanting to renew our vows for so long, we wanted to make this ceremony all ours, everything we didn't have but wanted the first time around. It was really all that and more, it was a very happy day .
So now each year we celebrate our anniversary on Sept 20th by going to Mohonk for 2 nights. So even though we changed the date of our celebrations from Dec to Sept, we still celebrate each year by doing something special.

Hi Ruth!

You and Chris look adorable! I love your dress and the setting is beautiful. Steve and I have renewed our vows too. It's fun. What a great idea to celebrate when it's not the hectic holiday season and I'm sure it's beautiful to stay where you do in Sept.

By the way, your doggie babies are absolutely the cutest! They way they looked up into the camera made me want to give them a kiss, LOL.

Love, Kathryn

Thanks so much ladies...renewing our vows was great for so many reasons.

I never liked our first wedding at all...the person I married was great but the wedding wasn't. After all, it's supposed to be such a special day, the first one fell short except for the husband part.

So in my mind, the renewal replaces the ceremony I didn't like and is what I think of when we celebrate each year now. We have a lot of nice memories from that day.

It's wise to re-do it for better memories!

Five days before our wedding our whole church altar area burned (and since I'm Christian this was very sacred to me), and I called Steve sobbing and he thought I was kidding! Right, every bride comes up with a tale like that for fun! At the point the church ladies said I was going to have to use paper plates for the reception due to the soot, I was a mess, since being a lover of beauty, (i.e. china!) I am NOT a paper plate sort of gal! We had to change churches and put a sign on the door telling everyone to go to the new church as there was not time to contact everyone (back before the days of email!) Now we look back and laugh, 27 years later, and it all turned out fine, but when you are 21, it's a bit traumatic! LOL

Any other good bridal stories out there?!

Kathryn :)

Oh Ruth, You look so beautiful and that dress is stunning....so simple and elegant. Man, what I wouldn't give to have that flat stomach. :) Hubby looks so handsome too. Happy Anniversary and Happy New Year. ~ Lynn

Kathryn...a burned alter?? Soot?? Paper plates?? Holy cow, I would have hung a note on the door as well.

You know, good for you for moving to another church for the ceremony. Better to do that then remember years later how you were inhaling soot during the ceremony.

For us, we had family issues with the first wedding, the whole thing felt more like pulling teeth then a joyous occasion. The second one, everything was perfect, just what we wanted, right down to having some beautiful photos to remember the day with, to having our good friends there, to being in one of our favorite places. Now when I look back on our wedding, the first one is replaced in my mind, by the second, much happier day.

Thank you Lynn, it was really great, I got a beautiful dress from David's Bridal..I love the empire waist dresses. Hair and makeup professionally done.

My stomach I'll give mom credit for, I inherited her metabolism...mom's side of the family was always thin. Funny though, didn't take care of myself 20 years ago but I sure do now, I'm an avid yogi, I love my yoga. I'm also a walker...love both things and not only do they make me fit physically but also, bring a lot of positive energy to my artwork I think. Sometimes you figure these things out as you get a bit older.

Beautiful photos Ruth, you make a lovely couple. Just reading the comment you left above, I'm also a walker, I'm addicted to it, evenings are my favourite time to walk, I think when you work at home you need some sort of cut off time to say "this is the end of my working day" sounds good in theory! Happy New Year Ruth!

Thanks Melissa, Jenn & Siobhan...

Gail, you are so right, when you work at home, you really need an outlet. Well, I think physical activity is important no matter where you work but it really clears your mind as well as makes your body feel good. I also try to get out of the house as much as possible, even if it is just to the book store. I love working at home but you can also feel caged up sometimes and just need to see other people.

That is cool that you are a night work out person, I do my excercising in the moring, mostly...except for today, I was lazy and read all morning then did yoga this afternoon.

Oh Ruth, you are so fun & funny! I'm glad you had a wonderful "second marriage." And Chris is a doll to help you with all he does. Tell him I said that! You really did look gorgeous, gal! :) Love, Kathryn

Thanks Sandra & Nature Girl, happy new year to you as well.

Kathryn, don't I know I'm lucky. So are you, Steve sounds like a great guy that helps you every step of the way. I feel lucky to have someone like that also, really a partner, not just someone I share house space with. : )

Hi Jo, thanks, that is why we celebrate in Sept now, because it was so special for us. I couldn't help though, thinking about it a few days ago on our "original" anniversary. I was remembering where we were 20 years go, what we were doing, both in our lives and the day of the wedding.

On one hand I cannot believe it was so long ago but on the other, seems like it was more recent then that.

Thanks Jo, we do like celebrating in Sept now but the other day, I couldn't help thinking about Dec 27 20 years ago. Even though that wasn't our favorite wedding, as Chris always says, we married the right person and stayed together. That is what is important when it is all said and done.
