Planning For A Winter Of Roses

I painted this antique ceiling tin 3 years ago and it has since, flown on its way to a new owner and is now happily living in Korea. The roses and background were painted in oils and the roses were created from ones that were growing in my garden at the time.

I can happily say that I've got my artistic time planned out for the rest of the whole winter, til April 1st actually. Wanting more time for a couple of watercolors and perhaps a couple of ceiling tin pieces that I've got stowed away in the basement waiting for me to paint them, I've decided to put aside some of my decorative commission work for the winter. It will give me time to work on the above mentioned and maybe some other things I have in mind also. I'm really excited about it actually, brimming with excitement, more so then I've been in a while. I also have some fun ideas I would like to try, maybe oils on watercolor backgrounds, you name it, I've got some design ideas , ready to be created this winter. These are things I really want to paint but just don't have the time to do anymore with the steady flow or orders that seem to always come in. I'm definitely in a rose mood and that theme will probably be at the center of some of the new creations. I'll be showing them here on my blog, so stay tuned.

On another note, the response for the pendant drawing has been really good. I'm still taking entries through next Monday the 17th so if you would like to enter into the drawing, please sign the post below this one and let me know you would like to be thrown in the kitchen mixing bowl.

Hi Ruth, Okay now....if you have a give-away for one of those rose paintings I will be at the head of the list. :) I can feel the excitement in your written words. With your painting keeping you busy old man winter will pass before you know it. I have a long list of "to do's" for after Christmas too. I told my son the other day (he lives in Hoboken) about the beautiful photos you post from the Botanical Gardens and now he's anxious to go. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Hi Ruth, thanks for visiting me. I love vintage bags, mine hang of a little scrolly table in our bedroom and off our hall stand. I always use one when I go out! My header is actually a photo of a print I have, found it in Melbourne Australia, very special to me. Your artwork is just beautiful. I'll be back to visit some more. Take Care - Rachael - xo

Thanks ladies and you are all right, winter is a good time to create. I certainlyl have no gardening distractions to pull me away from my work table at this time of the year. Usually, I let the winter blahs get me, but not this year, I've got a plan and I'm stickin' to it.

Ruth, my dear, I love roses so this one is a winner with me. It's lovely!

Personally I wouldn't mind having my bedroom ceiling (what on earth is a ceiling tin?) filled with painted roses and other flowers; what a great way to wake up!

Hi Yolanda, to answer your question about the ceiling tins, they are quite literally, a section (tile) of new or antique tins, put together, they can form a ceiling. You can also buy new or antique sections of tin to use as frames, backgound for artwork, you name it. Rather then hang one tile on the ceiling, you would hang it as you would a painting or picture, just on a wall in your house. Hope that answers your question about the tin. Have a good one.

Thanks for the explanation Ruth! The things you learn while blogging, eh? ;-)

This is really beautiful. Like Yolanda, I love roses ... and what a great idea to use tin ceiiling tiles.

The painted tile is gorgeous. I love the combination of the old tile with the soft pink roses. Someone in Korea is one lucky person.
