Foxglove Seed Packet Watercolor On Masonite Board

Just this week I finished my latest 11 x 14 watercolor on masonite board. I've decided to do a whole series of seed packets in watercolor and I started the series by painting some Foxglove, a flower that I have always thought is so very beautiful.

I had some beautiful Foxglove photos from a trip we took to Mohonk last year (lots of photos of our Mohonk outings are in my Out And About section to the right) so I decided to use those as a reference for this painting.

I wanted to do a series of really unusual and fun paintings and I got the idea for seed packet paintings by looking around on line, at vintage seed packs that were for sale. I just stumbled across them one day and the idea hit me out of the blue.

I wanted to make the border of the painting very colorful as I plan to make tee shirts and tote bags from this design , as well as the other seed packets that I paint.

Ruth I love the NEW LOOK to your blog since I was last in visiting! Forgive me but travelling posting and just enjoying my vacation leaves little time to surf the net.
Here I finally arrive ..the foxgloves are magnificant! We had dinner at the CamelBack Inn and as we entered there was a huge flower garden with an assortment of foxglove!! Thank you for regularly following my Arizona trip! Oh what you could do with your watercolors and the desert blossoms!! Happy day to you!

Great idea Ruth. I love it and have always loved the old seed packets. I framed some one time in an old very ornate frame and sold it in my (at the time) shop. Your new banner is so pretty. ~ Lynn

It's beautiful, Ruth! I thought about painting seed packets at one time too, and never did. Love the colors you used. I'm having a painter's block right now, and hoping it soon passes.

Ruth...these are fantastic! I can't wait to see what you do with the series. Are you going to sell these on Etsy?

Thanks so much everyone...very glad you enjoyed the first seed packet painting.

I'm also going to make tee shirts and tote bags from them. My husband actually thought of that one, I think it was a fabulous idea. I hope to have the first shirt and tote in a couple of weeks.

Now this is a lovely seed packet. Like you I'm very fond of Foxgloves. The border of the packet is also gorgeous, well done you Ruth. I particularly like the colour combinations you used. Have you thought of approaching the people who sell seeds? I think their seeds would sell like hot cakes, in such beautiful packets like yours. In the Netherlands we now have beautiful art seed packets that sell up a storm. ;-)
