Butterflies & Hydrangeas Vintage Shabby Chic Ceiling Tin

I just finished this 12" x 12" Butterflies & Hydrangeas shabby ceiling tin. I'm very pleased with the way this one turned out. I started out by antiquing the tin before laying on the design. It was only my second antiquing experiment and I have to say, I like the technique and I'm pleased with the look it gives the tin and the design.

I've been on a real butterfly kick these days. Who knows how it ever starts, I've just decided I need more butterflies in my life I suppose. You'll see what I mean when you see some of my other recent works....lots of butterflies.

I've also really been perfecting my Hydrangea technique and once again, took notes on how I did everything and what colors I used. You may think it's silly but you don't always remember what you did to achieve a certain effect so when I do something I like or use a color I like, I take notes on how I used it , when I used it and how everything came together. I actually have a notebook with ideas, techniques and colors. I find it very useful to refer back too.

So I decided to paint some of my favorite Hydrangea colors from my own garden, which are blue and lavender/purple.

Keep an eye out for more butterflies flying your way in upcoming posts. I'll be listing this piece some time today on my ETSY site.... http://www.artfulcreations.etsy.com/ .

Ruth, you and I are definitely kindred souls. It seems like every time I come to your blog to see a new post, you have painted some of my favorite flowers. I love hydrangeas. I planted two new ones last year, but because of the drought only one lived. It was, of course, not the nikko blue one. But my baby snowflake hydrangea has four beautiful white blooms on it right now. So, thank you for giving me beautiful blue hydrangea blooms to look at.

Blessings,
Christi

Thanks everyone. I have been on a real butterfly kick lately and have been looking through all my photos of butterflies I have taken in my garden, to get an idea of colors and patterns and what I would like them to look like.

This tile is so beautiful! I love the effect you achieved on the hydrangeas and know exactly what you mean about not writing things down and having to figure out how to duplicate a certain look!

This is so soft and lovely and romantic!

Hi Paula, thanks for your visit. Yes, I always write things down in my notebook. Sometimes you discover a great way to do something and lets face it, if you are busy working and creating, you often forget how you did what you did. It also really helps me approach new things as well..helps me organize my thoughts and apply a certain technique to different pieces.

Yolanda...thanks and boy, did I enjoy your visit to Monet's garden. Wish I could go there myself.

Hi Ruth, I have to write my techniques down too. Did you know that butterflies (like birds and bird's nest) are the latest design trend so you are with it my friend. :) Love hydrangeas. I planted two Endless Summers last fall and they are still small but have lots of buds right fnow. As always....a beautiful piece you have created there. ~ Lynn

Ruth your butterflies and hydrandeas tins are so pretty! I wish I could learn to keep exact notes on my creations. I often change so many aspects of a graphic, then can't remember what I did when I need to duplicate the process. xoxo

One of my favorite flowers which I grow here, love your roses too and I also am a big lover of Foxgloves, so I love all your floral designs :)
I also love how you added them tote bags, they would be great for grocery shopping or better yet, the flea market!

Thanks Lynn, Betty Jo, & Jo, glad you liked this latest tin.

Lynn, I had no idea that butterflies were a hot design trend now, I know I just like painting them. But it is extra good this way I suppose.
