I went outside on the back porch and stood very still, as close to the feeder as I thought I could dare go and to my surprise, the sweet little female I call the "percher" came right over, to spite my presence so near the feeder.
She was the first of the hummingbirds to arrive this season and the first to feel at home enough to perch while she drank. She didn't seem to mind me being outside at all so I was able to take quite a few nice photos of her and it really did make a difference not having to deal with trying to shoot through the screen door.
She still comes by on a constant basis each day and at least once a day, stops by with her mate or her girlfriend and they sit on the feeder and have a drink together. Hopefully one of these times I'll be able to capture the birds feeding together with the camera , I'll keep my eyes out anyway, you never know. (click to make any of the photos larger)

Great shots of the hummingbird, and love your painting!
Hi Ruth,
You are so clever to finally get a good shot of the Humming bird - I have yet to get a good shot as they move so fast.
I have a feeling that we will see a charming painting soon of a Humming bird.
Have a creative day.
Erin
Congrats on getting your new piece completed!
Great hummingbird shots...they're such beautiful creatures!
Oh, Ruth, love this, your painting and the pictures of the hummingbird. I love wild birds in all their forms. And, I get a peek of where I long to be. Thanks for sharing.
Love and Happiness!
Azmazing pictures! The birds are like little rainbows hidden in your painting. Lovely.
lovely painting!
You are lucky to get hummingbirds flying to your feeder. I put mine out (too) late this year and all they attracted was bees.
Ruth I am in awe of your completed work. Just gorgeous as always my friend. You just amaze me with your talents. Love the pics of the hummingbird too. They are delightful aren't they? We keep our feeder filled for them as well and love to watch as they flutter in place.
Thank you for stopping by the WBC partypost and your kind comment. Believe me, this room gets really messy when I am busy. I cleaned it up for the pics. You now you have to make a mess to get anything done most days. LOL
Have a great week and happy creating.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
Your painting is wonderful Ruth! I love hummingbirds and always have several in my garden.
I love the finished painting Ruth! The hummingbird is so sweet. Birds are so tricky to photograph. Hummingbirds must be the most difficult of all since they are so small and their wings move so rapidly!
