Some Late Summer Blooms

I have some perennial Hibiscus that are still giving me some lovely late summer blooms. If you look close, you can see a bee in this one.

The colors that I have are white (already done blooming), light pink, mauve and red. The mauve above are probably my favorites.

They bloom here where I live most strongly from late July - late August although I do still get intermittent blooms through the fall until frost.
I really do have a lot of garden favorites but this is one that is on the top of the list, along with a few others. To me, they are the real glory of my summer garden. They are large as dinner plates, beautiful and showy. Enjoy!!

Ohhhhh pink, my favorite color. We just added a Hibiscus to our garden this season but I think it will be 2 or 3 years before we see blooms like the ones in your garden.
The pendants in your previous post are absolutly gorgeous. You are very talented !!!!!

Hi Ruth, Your hibiscus are beautiful. I just bought one in a little pot, it has gorgeous salmon colored flowers on it. Only trouble is, I can't tell if it's a perennial hibiscus or if it's a houseplant? Is there a way to tell? It's leaves are shiny and dark green.

Thanks GG, Manuela & Dorothy.

GG, you'll be surprised, if you bought a perennial Hibiscus, you will be seeing blooms right away next year. They only get more and more beautiful too, as the years go on.

Dorothy, here is the scoop as far as I know on perennial versus tropical Hibiscus... perennial Hibiscus have the big dinner plate flowers. Sizes vary but generally they are large and more flat. Tropicals usually aren't as big. Also, as far as I know, the perennial Hibiscus only come in a few colors..I think that I have them all..pink, mauve, red & white. That of course is not to say that they haven't come up with new varieties I don't know about but to me, sounds like you've got a tropical plant. It will have to stay indoors for your PA winter.

Oh WOW Ruth! Your hibiscus are stunning. I adore the pink ones. My mother grew the most incredible varieties of hibiscus when I was growing up in Florida. She is gone now, but I will never forget her gorgeous gardens, and wish I had just one more day with her, in them. xoxo

Hey Betty Jo, the pink and mauve are some of my favorite too. I love how easy they are to care for also.

Hi Lynda...there have been so many times in my life I wish I could sew like you can. It's a great skill to have..unfortunately for me, a skill I don't possess. : )

Beautiful hibiscus. I've resisted growing them because the plant gets so large. The department of transportation planted some near a freeway exit and it surprising does well in that location beautifying the low area on the enbankment. Since yours blooms so well in a time when not much else is blooming I may reconsider my decision. Thanks for posting the photos.

I'll tell you Ki, I wouldn't trade my Hibiscus for anything. There might be other plants in my garden I might not plant again..but Hibiscus sure wouldn't be one of them. I have them in the back of my garden for that very reason, because they grow so beautifully tall. Just make sure you have something to stake them too if they need it. But they are so easy and fun to grow and they reward you with such beautiful flowers.
