Butterflies & Hydrangeas Jewelry Box

I'm finding it a bit harder to blog about new artwork lately, with all the gardening I'm doing and new blooms I'm taking photos of, it seems there is always something new appearing outside these days. This is a piece I finished a couple of weeks back, my Butterflies & Hydrangeas Jewelry Box.

This box is actually heavily distressed and antiqued. I really wanted it to have a feeling of being a time worn piece.

I did the antiquing one night after all the painting was done, I was in my kitchen, it was midnight and I was working on this box over the sink. Chris was actually playing a concert so this is when I can sometimes get the most work done in the evenings, the nights that he is working.

I've been on a real butterfly kick these days so I had to add two to this box.

There always has to be a surprise when the box opens so this time, I put a full Hydrangea bloom on the inside upper corner.

OH Ruth that is so so pretty!!

I am a butterfly fan... do love them fluttering around...

I know exactly what you mean about posting about art... its summer and time to be outdoors doing gardening and pruning and watering and feeding and reading books and barbecuing... lets see did I leave anything out?

So lovely Ruth, your artwork is beautiful, very special the way you paint little suprises in your trinket boxes. I've tried so many times to leave comments on your previous post...not quite sure why it didn't work, anyway here I am with this one, fingers crossed it will get to you!

Beautiful box Ruth!
I'm on a real butterfly kick too. I know what you mean about working on projects when there is so much gardening to do. We are definitely kindred spirits. :-)
Hugs!

p.s. Yes, it did feel like I was under machine gun fire with that digging! Ugh!!!!

I agree Ruth, this time of year, with everything in bloom, it's difficult to stay inside! But you've captured the outdoor flora and fauna on your sweet box! Beautiful butterfly!

I know what you mean Ruth. Even though I don't have a garden, it is hard to stay indoors and work these days. Beautiful box you've created. You have a new blog format since I last visited and I really like it. xoxo
