Beautiful Orchids......

During our vacation back in July, Chris and I journeyed to my favorite Orchid nursery, Parkside Orchids in Ottisville PA so I could add to my collection of these beautiful plants.

I wasn't planning on buying another Phalaenopsis that day but that is exactly what I did, I saw this beautiful pink spotted Phalaenopsis and just had to have it.

I actually went to Parkside to get some more Oncidium Orchids because I so enjoyed the one that I purchased there in the winter and it is doing very well in my sunny back studio window. I found this gorgeous delicate red Oncidium and just fell in love with it and decided that this one had to come home with me.

One of the colors I was hoping to find when I was there was a beautiful yellow Oncidium. There were several at the nursery, I loved this one though as the blooms were small and that is exactly what I wanted. I learned when I was at the Orchid show this year, that of all the Orchid species, the Oncidium has the truest, purest yellow.

This Orchid is one of my favorites but is not new to my house. This is "Woody" named because of the wooden planter I put her in, I've had Woody for 3 1/2 years now and back in May, I was very excited to see a spike growing up from the moss. I love the delicate color of this Orchid....
so very pretty.
I hope you've enjoyed the Orchid photos, both new additions and old favorites.

Ruth, these are gorgeous! It's amazing to me that you can grow them. I don't even try indoor plants anymore. It seems really cruel to purchase a healthy plant just to bring it to my home to die. :(

By the way....your mini blinds are so CLEAN!! Now I must spend the day cleaning mine....... :)

Hi Ruth,

Your new orchids are so beautiful - the colors are stunning - I especially love the yellow - such a bright and sunny color for your studio.

Your three Humming Bird paintings are fabulous - so simple and elegant.
Have a lovely week.

Ruth your orchids are spectacular. One of my favorite flowers ...I'm having a bit of trouble with the few I have. One is blooming now, but the other three are struggling!

You certainly have a creative touch when it comes to your art and your orchids! Beautiful!

Those are gorgeous, Ruth! That last photo looks like an O'Keefe painting.

Just stunning photos, Ruth. I especially love the first speckled purple one. I've often thought about buying an orchid when I see people walking out the store with one in hand, but I'm afraid I would kill it. I really don't have any indoor plants to speak of especially as I've moved half way across the country twice in less than 3 years and have to give them away before the move!

I just found your blog link on La Donna's site; I assume you're related?

Love your artwork, and the orchids here are sooo beautiful. I have orchids flowering at home at this moment, so I was taken by your phals. Mine are dendrobiums mostly - not a lot; just a little collection.

We attended a flora festival recently and there I got to see lots of fabulous orchids from the society pavilion.

Off to go see more of your blog.
