Aquatic Garden

Last week we went to visit one of my favorite places, The NY Botanical Garden. We actually went there specifically to see the tropical flower show that is currently on display but did make a little trip outside to the aquatic garden to see the Waterlilies and Lotus in bloom in their outdoor pool. I also took lots of good photos of the tropical display inside but had so many aquatic garden photos that I thought were lovely, I decided to dedicate this post just to them. I'll post the inside tropical garden, another time. I really think any one of these would make a great watercolor in the future. I'll keep them on file for just that !!

Thanks Jean...it was so beautiful at the garden last week when we went. I'll try to include more Waterlily photos sometime in the future. I went a little nuts with the Lotus Flower as you can see but I just think they are all beautiful. I especially love the leaves...the shape of them, just makes you want to reach out and touch them.

Beautiful pictures! This week I was walking my garden and saw that we had some flowers in our pond (for the first time)! I was so excited I had to snap some pictures too!

Manuela, I was just visiting your blog....I'm like you, I don't cut down my perennials before the winter, I let the stalks stay put so I can enjoy something outside during the dreary winter. Kind of reminds me of nice things to come.

Hi Ruth, I was so pleased you visited my blog. Yes, it was sad to see the old tree go but then no more mess around the pool. Yeah! Your photos are extraordinary. Such talent! And your works of art are just beautiful. How blessed you are to have such talent. Please visit anytime! Lynn

I really enjoyed my visit to your blog Lynn..I'm sure I'll be back again quite often. Yep, sad as it is with the tree situation, you found a good side too it, that's good. We lost a tree years ago in our old yard, not a great one by all means either. But it ended up letting me expand my garden further, which turned out to be a great thing for me so it did work out.

Hi Ruth,
I just love water lilies, the colours are just so crisp and fresh, i have often wondered what those seed heads were from, now i know.

Cheers Mark

Mark, I'm very fascinated by the Lotus Flower. I think they are gorgeous and so cool looking. When the petals fall off, the pods look like shower heads to me. : ) I really would like to paint one soon. Also, their leaves are so sexy...love em.

These are truly exquisite photos, Ruth. i can see some lovely paintings forming in that creative head of yours :) I'm sure they will be posted in due course, and I look forward to seeing them :)

WG, I have more paintings that I want to paint, then time to paint them. I bet you can relate being an artist yourself. I hope I do get to do this one though because it is such a beautiful flower/shower head.

Hi Ruth:-) Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment...it took me a few days to pay back the visit but I'm finally here! lol I've been reading some of your posts and omigosh you are such a wonderful artist! My oldest son is quite artistic that way but unfortunately he doesn't have much time to draw or paint anymore...life seems to get in the way!! The water lilies bring back so many memories...when I was a child, my dad would go fishing and he would always bring me back a water lily for my hair:-) xox

Thanks Jennifer, Pea & Jamie...you cannot go wrong when you go to the Botanical Garden as far as picture taking goes. I think most of these were shot by my husband Chris, I had a hard time getting the camera away from him that day.

Lotuses have such a lovely flower I decided to see if I could grow them. I first bought a tuber at the local Asian food store but it failed to sprout new growth. So I mail ordered and planted three different kinds of lotus last year but they didn't do well and rotted. I blamed it on the cold water in the pond but I guess if the NY Botanical Garden can grow them that's obviously not problem. I guess I'll have to content myself by looking at your beautiful photos.

Hi Ki, yep the aquatic pond at NY Botanical Garden is really so beautiful. I think they are amazing flowers as well. Even though the flowers beautiful, I think I still love the "shower head" best myself. : ) Sorry yours didn't work out though, keep trying.
