New York Botanical Garden Orchid Show '08

This years Orchid show at the Botanical Garden was just gorgeous. I took almost 200 photos this year and wish I could show them all on my blog but that would be just impossible. I'll be doing another post on the show in the upcoming weeks and have decided to break both posts down in some kind of logical fashion. This one will show overall shots of some of the most beautiful displays and the next, will be close ups of all the beautiful plants and their names whenever possible.

These 2 photos above were taken as you walk into the front door of the Enid Haupt Conservatory. Every year this is the building that houses the Orchid show as well as other special displays. This is the pond that you see in the entryway of the conservatory and each year it is filled with beautiful Orchid displays floating on the water.

All kinds of different varieties of Orchids decorate the front of this faux house.

Bamboo was a big theme this year, so many of the pots and structures were made of Bamboo.

This is the reverse side of the faux house and as you can see, it is surrounded on all sides by Orchids.

Close-up of the back roof top.

This faux house is also surrounded by water and pots of Orchids supported by Bamboo rafts, appeared to be floating all around.

My favorite thing however, were the gorgeous archways filled with all different Orchid varieties, I could have stayed under these arches all day long. Do you know how long I had to walk back and forth in this area to finally get a shot with no people in the way?? Well, it was quite a while but still, it was worth it to wait for the perfect shot.

This was my favorite Orchid show by far. We've gone the last 3 years and while the 2006 show was my favorite thus far, 2008 has definitely taken over the top slot, due in particular to these archways I think.

I did get my shirt and also a new Orchid...I'll be showing those in the upcoming weeks as well. Enjoy!!!

These are simply breath-taking, dear Ruth. My hearth is covered in orchids as I am unable to have them outdoors. they always seem so exotic to me. I love how they stay I flower for months on end. When we went to the Chelsea Flower show last year I took oodles of photos of orchids :)

I am sooooo jealous!! We never have flower shows here. I think people that live in the desert, just don't believe in them. That's why my yard really sticks out in the neighborhood. I have desert denial!
Thank you for sharing! I would've spent hours with you under those arches!
Hugs!

Thanks everyone, this was such a spectacular show. Those arches were my very favorite thing and I could have just stood there forever. I'll be posting pictures of Orchid close ups over the next weeks...so everyone can see some cool up close and personal photos of the Orhids.

Michelle, that is what I love about your yard, it is so lush and gorgeous, I would never image from looking at it, that you live in a desert landscape area. : )

Jo, this was a very stunning show..I took so many photos that it was hard to narrow down which ones I wanted to post, that is why I thought I would do some overall shots first and then, close ups.

The show is held in the same conservatory each year so the background plants and hardscapes are the same for the most part, but they always make the display look so different. The '06 show had been my favorite and last years', though good, was not as good as '06. This year however, was fabulous and beat both previous years out, in my opinion. : ) I'm not sure how they will top it next year.
